Five days of dining and drinking, listening and learning, mixing and mingling – the 2006 event was a huge success! With more than 7000 people attending the 30 plus events, Tales of the Cocktail “sipped for the city of New Orleans .” Restaurants were packed, bars were maxed out and the Hotel Monteleone hosted a hefty, but pleasant crowd. Special guests like Kevin Brauch of the FINE LIVING NETWORK, editors of Food & Wine, authors and chefs from around the country and many other culinary and mixology experts gathered for this years annual event, which had special meaning for a recovering New Orleans.

"Tales of the Cocktail has grown in four short years to become a unique New Orleans celebration of the American Cocktail and it is here to stay.” Dale DeGroff, King Cocktail

“Viva Tales of the Cocktail. I found the Sip of the City to be extremely stimulating, deliciously intoxicating and a great way to spend five-divine days sharing the culture, the history and the spirit of the cocktail with other enthusiastic consumers as we rebuild the City of New Orleans. It was the perfect distraction after almost a year of dealing with insurance adjusters, SBA loans and overpriced contractors.” Margarita Bergen, Bayou Buzz

"What a pleasure to learn about the history and craft of the cocktail from top mixologists, to drink their drinks, and to develop a new appreciation of what's in your glass--all in one of the greatest eating and drinking cities in the world." -JJ Goode, Epicurious.com

Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s event and believing in New Orleans.

Tales of the Cocktail 2007 will take place in New Orleans on July 18-22, 2007. Sign up with your email address for a schedule of events and other news.

We are very pleased to announce a new collaboration with the good folks at Tales of the Cocktail: SIPPIN' AT SAVVY, The Friday Afternoon Happy Hour Cocktail Class.

And we're even more pleased to have "Proud to Call it Home" as the theme of our first-ever class. As many of you all know, New Orleans had a huge role in the development and popularity of the cocktail, and tonight we're going to talk about, taste and tip (as in, "make your own") a few of our more famous examples, including the Sazerac, the Ramos Gin Fizz, Brandy Milk Punch and a couple of other surprise N.O. libations!

This cocktails class is History with a Twist! New Orleans Food and Cocktail Lorin Gaudin will be your mixologist for the evening while tour guide and historian Joe Gendusa expands on the history of these great cocktails in a city notorious drinking and eating habits. Joe knows the colorful stories of New Orleans’ dining and drinking history better than any local you’ll find.

Goddess Lorin Gaudin is not only a drinks writer for several publications, and a board member of The New Orleans Culinary and Cocktail Preservation Society and a museum dedicated to the cocktail, she can make a great drink. Lorin bartended during college at Bruno's, where she was the bar's first female bartender and perfected her craft with classic New Orleans Cocktails. She then tended bar at Vera Cruz Uptown creating their signature margarita recipe.

Partial Proceeds from the admission price ($45) benefit the New Orleans Culinary and Cocktail Preservation Society. The New Orleans Culinary and Cultural Preservation Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to benefit hospitality industry members, produces Tales of the Cocktail annually. Its mission is to preserve the rich history of the restaurants and bars of New Orleans and the unique culture of dining and drinking famous to the city, while educating locals, visitors, and the hospitality industry about this culinary heritage. Tales of the Cocktail, so it's a great time for a good cause!
